Take it from the self-tanning addict herself, this stuff will make you forget you were ever pale in the first place.
Okay, so recently I got the opportunity to test out a bunch of new tanning products, and the self-tanning geek in me has been super pumped to write this blog post all about my newly discovered favorites! No joke guys, I’m claiming these as the best tanning products of 2017. If you’re like me, you hate being pale–and I mean, hate. Obviously, everyone looks better with a bit of a tan, but I’m definitely not somebody who likes to heir on the side of caution with tanning. When I hear “extra dark” or “level 3” at the tanning salon, I’m a happy camper. BUT don’t worry–I know that not everyone likes to look 10 shades darker year-round, so I have a few options that I tested out for those of you that like a subtle glow as well. Below are my top 5 holy grail products to keep you looking like a bronzed goddess all winter long. *Plus a few best practices for smooth and effective application!*
1. The instant vacation.
MineTan nailed it with their Dark Ash Bronzing Mousse. If you want to wake up looking like you just got back from the Bahamas, I highly recommend applying this once every other night for one week. The formula gets darker each time you use it, but honestly, after one application, I was feeling pretty good. The best part about this brand are the mitts they come with. They have a velvet texture and apply the tanner completely streak-free!
2. The emergency savior.
You know those nights where every part of you intended to stay in but your friends are thinking otherwise? This is where St. Tropez comes in. Pair the Express Tan with the One Night Only Gloss, and you’re ready to party. Personally, if I’m not tan, I don’t like going out. It sounds extreme, but think about it: you have to feel good and confident before going out at night, and I find that comes much easier when I don’t look pale–usually because that’s when people ask the lovely question, “are you sick??” NOPE, just natural. Thankfully, St. Tropez makes it totally possible to look like you’re just naturally glowing.
3. The subtle difference.
My girls who like to keep it natural: this one’s for you. I recently tried out Bondi Sands Light to Medium Foaming Mousse, and it is perfect for anyone starting off with super pale skin or just looking to experiment with self-tanner for the first time. The light to medium shade basically takes your natural skin color up a notch instead of drastically changing colors. This brand also makes a velvet mitt that applies the mousse seamlessly onto the skin. Whenever I’m trying to maintain my color and keep it from fading, I’ll make a habit of applying this regularly before bed.
4. The BAE-Proof.
Yep, it’s exactly how it sounds. You already know how stressful it is to have a sleepover with bae while also wanting to remain all cute and tan. I can’t even describe how many internal dilemmas I’ve had where I had to decide what was more important: my romance with a significant other or my serious relationship with self tanner. I recently met up with the founder of Tan Luxe, who actually had this same problem. How do you cuddle with your partner if you smell like tanning lotion and also run the risk of staining his sheets?! I can confirm, Tan Luxe has officially solved this problem. Not only does it smell like heaven but it’s also a clear formula. I’ve been obsessing over The Butter because I’m essentially applying my normal hydrating body butter before bed and waking up shades darker. The Sleep Oil is another must-have for me. The more drops you mix with your moisturizer, the darker you get. I’ll mix about 6 drops with my facial night cream, and what do you know…my face finally matches my body!
My secrets to seamless application:
MineTan Velvet Mitt.
If you don’t want streaks, use this guy. I’ve used many mitts in my life, and this by far gives the most even application.
Bondi Sands Back Applicator.
Can we just have a moment of silence for this? HOW MANY GIRLS have struggled with trying to get the top of their backs to look evenly tan with the front?! I know I have. This applicator solves that issue completely.
Bondi Sands Tan Eraser.
I’m pretty sure Bondi Sands is solving all of the inevitable problems that come with self-tanning. What happens when it does get splotchy and you need to start all over? Use this formula with the exfoliating mitt, and you have a brand new canvas to get your tan on again. Bless.
