*I’m just grouping Christmas and NYE all in one holiday category, so I totally support sparkles on either occasion.
Good rule of thumb for dressing up during the holidays: look as extra as possible. Why? Because if you’re anything like me or most people, you’re probably dreading all the questions about your career, love life, overall financial stability, etc. from your family members that happens around this time of year! Plot twist: if you show up in a bright blue sparkly sequin set to your family Christmas or Hanukkah party, you can bet your butt that’ll be an INSTANT topic of conversation. In fact, people might just forget to ask you about your hopes and dreams in life altogether. And if you’re really lucky, they may even skip the question about your plan of action and how in the world you plan to live a successful life, especially in LA where it’s so expensive and everyone is crazy but you’re somehow the outlier, and are you planning on staying forever? If so, how?
An outfit this sparkly and fun completely takes away the focus from any sort of heavy conversation because it screams PARTY. In no way does it imply that you’re ready to sit down for an emotionally taxing conversation with grandma who’s intent on dissecting why you don’t have a boyfriend when you’re so adorable.
I’ve got a whole slew of New Year’s Eve outfit ideas that I’m planning on linking below, but this set by Nasty Gal is by far my favorite. Let’s be honest: it’s extra AF, and I relate to that on a personal level. It’s also a great conversation starter/attention-grabber, and I’m not opposed to either of those. I wouldn’t have a blog if I didn’t love a good conversation and boatloads of attention. ALSOO pro tip: if you really want the blue to pop and boys to feel an instant need to approach you, the Nars Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Khao San Road is essentially the equivalent to the milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard. Not joking, I’ve had more guys use this as a conversation starter than you’d think. And you know what? Mac Cosmetics has this shiny, sparkly eyeshadow called Gleam (that I’m wearing) that may also be the icing on the cake to your NYE ploy to have all eyes on YOU.
